City & Guilds Application Form

Introduction

Though Malaysia claims to have English as second language, the truth is we are far from that status in reality. Many of us cannot even speak English and for those who can, they are basically users of English as other languages. Perhaps only between 5 to 10 per cent of speakers of English in Malaysia actually have it as second language. With this clear picture, we know many of the people in the working world face problems in using the language.
Therefore, TNI is offering you “Professional English with City & Guilds”.
City & Guilds Pitman Qualifications is an awarding body established for over 100 years which is now providing the English language section to City and Guilds International. Professional English with City & Guilds is basically a newly designed course that offers the best combination of the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), English for Business Communication (EBC) and English for Office Skills (EOS) programmes. Participants will be exposed to all the important stages gathered from these programmes and will seat for the EBC examination at the end of the course and receive a professional certification from City & Guilds.

Course objective

This course is designed to help participants improve their English language proficiency particularly for their own professional development. It is set up to suit the usage of English in working environment so that they can communicate effectively, with greater clarity and increased confidence . This course also aims to assess participants using a world standard assessment system and award them with a professional certificate from our partner, City and Guilds, upon passing the examination.  Attention will be given to speaking, writing, reading and listening skills.

Who and What is City & Guilds, U.K.

City & Guilds of London Institute Group, is an independent charity founded in 1878 by the 16 livery companies and the Corporation of London, with the broad intent to establish a national system of education.  The grant to the Institute of a Royal Charter of Incorporation in October 1900 by Queen Victoria denoted its acceptance as a recognised part of the constitution and national life of the United Kingdom.
City & Guilds is now UK’s leading and largest provider of vocational qualifications, offering over 500 awards across a wide range of industries, and progressing from entry level to the highest levels of professional achievement. With over 8500 centres in 100 countries, City & Guilds is recognized by employers worldwide for providing qualifications that offer proof of the skills they need to get the job done.
In the absence of the English language as a qualification based skill for foreign students to learn and acquire, City & Guilds, in 1990, purchased the Pitmans Examinations Institute, who were the front runners in the teaching of the English language, and established the Pitmans qualifications single subject awards in business and administration, and English language and they proved to be worldwide winners.

Progam Structure

It is impossible to master the English Language over a 2 or 3 days training course. We will be deceiving you if this was done. After having done some research, TNI using the City & Guilds model of teaching the English Language has designed the programme to be taught over a period of 130 contact hours. Using this as our “yard stick” we  were able to accommodate two types  of training (a) In-House training for corporate clients and (b) Public course.
For item (a) the training hours can be flexible ie. It can be done once a week or twice a week or even evening classes depending on the availability of the staff in your organisation.
For item (b) training will be conducted as evening classes twice per week for 2 hours (8.00p.m. to 10.00p.m.) at TNI’s Centre of Learning Excellence located at B-3-8, Megan Avenue 1, 189 Jalan Tun Razak, K.L.
