Mr. Philip Tan
Associate Trainer

International conference public speaker and motivator cum trainer Philip Tan is an individual of varied experience and skills. Philip has a Bachelor of Laws with Honours. He also has a master in business administration from the University of Hull, UK. He has worked in academia and industry. He has served in various capacities in senior management. He has held the responsibilities of vice president and dean of Sedaya College (now known as UCSI), vice-president of LimKokwing School of Creativity, Director of Centre for Executive Education, HELP Institute and Director for Continuing Professional Educational, School of Hospitality, Taylor’s College. He has also served as a chief operating officer of an MSC status, Aims Technology S/B, a dotcom company, and group sales manager of an MLM. He has served as the chief executive officer of the local chapter of an international division (ICSA) that champions good corporate governance.
Philip is both a practitioner and advocate of the Behavioral Events Interview (BEI) methodologies. Having held senior positions in his career, Philip has personally conducted interviews to select candidates that best suit the positions available in his organisations. He uses the BEI methodologies and approaches to select the candidates. BEI evaluates candidates on their past actions in past events to determine their likely future behavior in similar situations. The BEI uses a series of structured questions that covers specific events, tasks, past actions that were taken by the candidates and the results that were achieved by them. Philip also trains and shares with interviewers the BEI methodology.
As a member of senior management, Philip has also actively and personally spearheads the designing and writing of job descriptions that will identify the right people to hire to improve the performance of the company. As such, Philip is also very experience and hands-on in areas relating to determining Job Descriptions and setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Formerly on the panel of trainers on the platform of KUB-ROC, Philip has also conducted training for the module; The Importance of Good Corporate Governance, under the then ROC Corporate Directors’ Training Programme. Among the corporate directors he has trained are from the KUB group, PKNS, PERDASAMA, etc. Notably, he has also trained senior individuals from the president’s department, the government of the United Republic of Tanzania that includes, ministers, judges and chief justices, etc, in the topic: ‘Government and Governance”.
Philip has also served as Senior Examiner for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) UK, Asia Pacific Board of Examiners. As Senior Examiner he assessed the marketing and promotion management papers. Among his participants, Philip is known as being able to draw upon his extensive experience and varied qualifications and relate the knowledge and business savvy with his audience.
Multi-skills and adept in sales and marketing, Philip has trained the MUI and Corus Group, Stamford College, Kimgress Berhad, Masterskills Berhad, etc, in marketing , selling skills and service strategy.. He has trained delegates from Oman Telecoms, SABIC, Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Allied Bank Pakistan, etc, in promotion management and marketing skills.
Philip has also done training assignments for Nutrients Premium Bhd, SIEMENS, etc, in Strategic Planning, Maybank in “The Law of Meetings, Public Bank in principles of management.
He was also a regular speaker for the creative school One Academy where he speaks on approaches and techniques in creative advertising. He has also conducted programmes on presentation, public speaking skills for companies such as Jessen & Jebsen, Cadbury, GDEX, etc
Having being trained as a teacher by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia, Philip has a Teacher’s Certificate in Education, (TESOL) awarded by the Pantai Valley Teachers’ College, Kuala Lumpur. Philip is very proficient in the pedagogy and methodology of learning, teaching and training. With his experience, he has also trained headmasters, senior assistants and teachers in the usage of the English language in Business English and English in the Teaching of Mathematics and Science.
Philip also lectures and supervises MBA postgraduate students for the University of East London (UeL) master degree dissertations.
When he is not on the training and public speaking circuit, Philip consults on governance matters and strategic planning in management. |
